Before The I Do's: Picking A Venue

Whoever thought finding a wedding venue could be as hard as a physics assignment? lol And if you happen to have other traditions then it can be even harder because the ‘traditional ceremony’ is a whole festivity. This means you need 2-3 different venues for each celebration( traditional, white ceremony and reception). Nevertheless, picking a venue is a touchy topic because many people are very conventional and prefer to have the ceremony at a church or chapel and then another venue for the reception.

A few years ago, couples getting married and their guests kept it simple. They didn’t do much for ceremonies and receptions but in recent times things have changed A WHOLE LOT, and couples are paying more attention to every detail and investing a lot in their once in a lifetime event. Their guests also put a lot of effort into just getting ready on the big day, sometimes to the point of missing the ceremony and showing up fashionably late for the reception(lol). Basically, the ceremony is a formality and the reception is where all of the fun happens, hence the need for a reception (party) venue. Most couples tend to be relaxed and happier at the reception because they have the time to enjoy themselves and to see everyone who is celebrating with them at the reception.

In that case, how do we pick the right venue? Preferences, guest numbers, and budget are key points! When you start searching for a venue make sure you have asked yourself some of these questions. What is your budget? Do you care for aesthetic? Are you looking to have your ceremony and reception at the same venue? Is the venue flexible? Are they outside catering friendly? Is there parking? Will it fit all your guests? And finally, how late can your event go?

These are a few questions you should think of before you start venue visits because the process can be tedious when you just ‘google’ places. But once you know what you are looking for when the venue manager starts ranting you don’t panic. Also, understand that some venues have hidden fees and don’t entirely open up about everything unless you ask. Since this is most couples' first time getting married, they really don’t know what to ask so do some research or do yourself a favor and HIRE A PLANNER so that they can ask all the trick questions on your behalf during a site visit. Finally, make sure your budget is in good standing because venues are not cheap and you don’t want any surprises.
